Phaistos Palace & Disc
The palace of Phaistos is one of the most important Minoan palaces and with approx. 18,000 m² the second largest after that of Knossos. It lies in the western part of the large and fertile Messara plain on a hill from which the king was able to control the country and the coast with the ports (Komos and Matala).
The Phaistos Disc (also spelled Phaistos Disk, Phaestos Disc) is a disk of fired clay from the Minoan palace of Phaistos on the island of Crete, possibly dating to the middle or late Minoan Bronze Age (second millennium BC). The disk is about 15 cm (5.9 in) in diameter and covered on both sides with a spiral of stamped symbols. Its purpose and its original place of manufacture remain disputed. It is now on display at the archaeological museum of Heraklion.
The impressive beaches of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountain villages of Crete combined with the hospitable people create a holiday destination of extreme interest. Located in Klima, a very quiet and small village just 5 minutes away to one of the longest beaches on Crete.
